Several cormorants have been spotted this February in the Calafell stream sporting a more colorful nuptial plumage to attract females during the breeding season.

Coinciding with Valentine's Day, these birds have begun an aesthetic renewal. The new look is characterized by white patches on the head and legs, creating a sharp contrast with their usual dark feathers.
In the Calafell stream, males are often seen perched on water fountains with their wings spread wide. This behavior, along with wing-flapping, is used to show off the new white markings and capture the attention of females.
This natural event takes place every year between December and March, just before the birds leave the coast and wetlands of Baix Penedès at the end of the wintering period.
