The Minister of Justice and Democratic Quality, Ramon Espadaler, visited the municipalities of Calafell, Cunit, and El Vendrell in Baix Penedès this Wednesday. The institutional visit focused on strengthening proximity justice and preserving the historical and democratic heritage of the region.
In Calafell, the minister met with the mayor, Ramon Ferré, and council members. After signing the town's honorary book, he visited the Castell de la Santa Creu and learned about the operation of the Municipal Justice Office. Espadaler emphasized that these offices are key to ensuring an "accessible, close, and adapted" service for citizens.
In Cunit, the minister was received by Mayor Jaume Casañas. He visited the Municipal Justice Office and met with the justice of the peace. This office, with its own staff, serves over 16,000 inhabitants and facilitates access to justice services without the need for citizens to travel.
The day concluded at the Pau Casals Museum in El Vendrell, where Espadaler was welcomed by Mayor Kenneth Martínez, museum director Núria Ballester, and the general director of the Pau Casals Foundation, Jordi Pardo. The minister highlighted Pau Casals as a benchmark for peace and human rights advocacy.
“"The Municipal Justice Offices are a key element in the transformation of the public justice service, as they "guarantee more accessible, close, and adapted attention to citizens' needs, especially in medium-sized and small municipalities"."
The minister stressed the importance of preserving and transmitting Pau Casals' legacy to new generations and acknowledged the collaboration between the Department of Justice, the Memorial Democràtic, and the Pau Casals Foundation on democratic memory initiatives.
