The Government of Catalonia is participating in Brussels in a European event on the role of industrial regions in the transition to a lower-emission economy.

The Director General for Climate Change and Environmental Quality, Sonsoles Letang, participated this Wednesday in Brussels in an event organized by the Under2 coalition and the 4 Motors for Europe network, as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2026. The meeting brought together representatives from various European regions to analyze how to move towards an industry with lower greenhouse gas emissions and discuss measures to address the energy and climate challenges ahead.
During her intervention, Letang presented planning instruments for emission reduction and the transformation of productive sectors, such as Catalonia's carbon budgets and the Integrated Energy and Climate Change Plan of Catalonia (PINECCAT). These actions aim to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, promote efficient energy use, and strengthen adaptation to climate change.
She also referred to the Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap, which includes actions for different industrial sub-sectors, and initiatives related to renewable energies and biogas. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between administrations, companies, and territories to achieve European climate objectives, emphasizing the work with the Chemical Business Association of Tarragona (AEQT) on industrial decarbonization.
Initiatives on carbon capture, utilization, and storage, as well as the development of the European hydrogen corridor, were presented as key infrastructures for reducing emissions in hard-to-decarbonize sectors. Letang's participation in Brussels is part of an institutional agenda that includes European and bilateral ministerial meetings, and encounters with European regions within the Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP).
