The Barcelona City Council has launched two new grant calls totaling 10.5 million euros aimed at housing rehabilitation and improving building accessibility in the city.

The calls aim to promote interior housing renovation with energy efficiency and decarbonization measures, as well as to enhance the accessibility of residential communities through the installation of elevators and the removal of architectural barriers.
The grant for housing rehabilitation has a budget of 6 million euros and is aimed at owners, usufructuaries, and tenants wishing to make improvements to their primary residence. These improvements include modifying enclosures, renewing windows, replacing fossil fuel heating systems with renewable energy alternatives, and functional adaptations for people with disabilities. The application deadline is December 31, 2026. Grants can cover up to 6,000 euros per apartment, with a minimum work cost of 1,000 euros, potentially reaching 9,000 euros if applying for both programs (energy efficiency and functional adaptation).
Furthermore, grants for improving building accessibility have a budget of 4.5 million euros and are managed by the Consorci de l'Habitatge de Barcelona. These funds will be used for installing elevators and removing architectural barriers in common areas. Grants will cover up to 40% of the eligible cost for elevator installation (capped at 45,000 euros, extendable to 60,000 euros for external elevators) and up to 30% for the removal of architectural barriers (capped at 30,000 euros). The deadline for this call is December 11, 2026. A portion of these funds, 500,000 euros, will be allocated to actions within the Pla de Barris in Baró de Viver.
The accessibility call also includes a social cohesion grant for vulnerable families, which can cover up to 100% of the proportional share of the works corresponding to each dwelling.
