The Port of Barcelona's commitment to decarbonization includes ship electrification and the implementation of clean fuels. The president of the port authority, José Alberto Carbonell, emphasized that this initiative positions Barcelona as a "sustainability benchmark in Europe".
“"We are implementing the usual methanol, but now produced with 100% renewable energy."
Regarding tourism management, Carbonell highlighted the agreement reached with the Barcelona City Council to reduce the number of cruise terminals from seven to five. This measure addresses the goal of controlling tourist overcrowding, even though cruise passengers only account for 5 % of the city's total tourism.
“"We are fulfilling the commitment to reduce tourist overcrowding in the city."
Finally, Carbonell positively assessed the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, noting that it will open new markets in South America and increase exports and imports, generating greater economic activity for Barcelona in the coming years.
