This operation marks a milestone in the Catalan capital, as it is the first time a special education center has transitioned from the subsidized sector to the public one. The administration will purchase the 1,690-square-meter building on Gomis street.
The project includes a total investment of 850,000 euros for the acquisition and renovation of the facilities. The main goal of the works will be to improve accessibility for its 90 students, who are mostly children with autism spectrum disorders.
“"It is important that students can continue their schooling by expanding the offer of places; therefore, coming to the rescue of educational centers is important."
With this addition, Barcelona will have seven public special education centers out of 33 in the city. The staff of 28 professionals will be integrated into the Department of Education and Professional Training.
