The Escola Diputació in Barcelona has implemented a community system to recover surplus water from the canteen and rain, using it to irrigate the urban gardens in the Eixample district.

The initiative arose from the prohibition of watering urban gardens due to the drought decree, prompting students at Escola Diputació, located in the Esquerra de l'Eixample, to seek alternatives to supply water to their “green oasis.”
The project includes various low-cost and easily reproducible actions: from collecting water left in canteen jugs and children's cups in infant education classrooms, to installing buckets at patio fountains to prevent the waste of every drop.

"To make the students and the educational community understand the value of this resource, creating collection strategies and mechanisms."

In addition to domestic savings, the school has integrated a phytodepuration prototype in the patio, where students work to naturally clean and recover rainwater using plants, making it suitable for watering community green spaces.
This action is part of the “Water Seeding Community,” a network connecting the school with the Institut Viladomat and nearby green spaces such as Hort de Germanetes, promoted with the support of Associació Lemur and a grant from Bit Habitat, a foundation of the Barcelona City Council.
