The rental price in Barcelona continues to be a challenge for many residents, despite a slight downward trend, prompting administrations to maintain and activate various subsidy lines to facilitate access to housing.

The Spanish Government implemented a new rental price index in 2024 to contain cost escalation. In parallel, various administrations have launched aid programs for different segments of the population, with the aim of mitigating the economic impact of rent.
Among the notable initiatives, the Generalitat de Catalunya offered the Youth Rental Voucher, a subsidy of up to 250 euros per month for two years for young people up to 35 years old. Requirements included being registered at the home before the call, paying rent below 900 euros in Barcelona and the metropolitan area (or 450 euros for a room), being up to date with payments, and having an income below 25,200 euros annually. The deadline for this aid ended on March 13, 2026.
The Barcelona City Council has activated for 2026 an aid of up to 400 euros for those over 55 living alone and single-parent families. To access it, the home must be in Barcelona, be the habitual residence, and the applicant must be the holder of the rental contract. Monthly rent cannot exceed 1,100 euros, and at least 30% of income must be allocated to rent. The application period began on February 20 and extends until March 21, 2026.
Furthermore, the Generalitat de Catalunya also foresees aid for those over 65 at risk of social exclusion, with subsidies of up to 200 euros. The requirements are similar to those of the Youth Voucher regarding registration, rent limit, and income. The deadline for this call has not yet opened. Likewise, there is a line of aid for people between 36 and 64 years old at risk of exclusion, with amounts from 20 to 200 euros per month and an extended application period until May 8.
For emergency situations, the Generalitat offers benefits to guarantee permanence in housing, aimed at residents in Catalonia with limited income and at risk of residential exclusion due to non-payment. The deadline to apply is between February 9 and September 30, 2026. The Barcelona City Council also has aid for rental debts, with the aim of preventing evictions, requiring debts due to unforeseen circumstances and a socioeconomic report from Social Services.
