People from different parts of Catalonia noticed a strange smell of burning in the air this morning. The sensation spread to municipalities in Ponent, Central Catalonia, Vallès, Barcelona, and surrounding areas, causing surprise among residents due to the absence of active fires in the vicinity.
According to the Firefighters, the origin of this smell is located kilometers away, specifically in the Aragonese municipality of Leciñena, in the Monegros region. Civil Protection confirmed the information via social media, indicating that the cause is the fire declared in Zaragoza.
The fire, which began yesterday in the early afternoon in the Alcubierre mountain range, is evolving favorably according to Aragonese firefighters, despite having burned approximately 2,200 hectares. The road between Robres and Alcubierre, closed last night, has already been reopened to traffic this morning.
Around 250 personnel are working on the extinction efforts, including firefighters from the Valencian Community and Castilla y León. The Aragonese Minister of the Interior, Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, stated that additional reinforcements would be requested from Catalonia, Navarre, and the Basque Country if necessary.
