The change in the tram route between Glòries square and Diagonal, executed by the Barcelona City Council and the ATM, intensifies traffic disruptions starting this January and will last until Spring 2027.

This Thursday, the permanent closure of traffic on Ciutat de Granada street between Gran Via and Diagonal took effect, dedicating the space exclusively to the tram. Furthermore, the three lanes of Diagonal (sea side) will be reduced to a single lane between Ciutat de Granada and Badajoz from January 16 until Spring 2027.
This reduction forces buses to share a lane with private transport, although an alternative route will be facilitated via Badajoz street. The works, carried out by Comsa and FCC, will occupy the central boulevard of Diagonal and will require cutting the Trambesòs lines T4, T5, and T6 during the second half of the year to execute the track diversion.

"The objective is to advance the works as much as possible now to minimize the actions that will have to be carried out in the summer."

Barcelona City Council · Statement
The project, budgeted at 32.54 million euros, will allow lines T5 and T6 to pass through Glòries using the same route as the T4, simplifying the current network. The reurbanization of the Gran Via surface will also be completed, and a segregated bidirectional bike lane will be installed on the mountain side sidewalk of Diagonal.
