The Catalan Government and the Ministry of Labour have highlighted that employees have the right to paid leave during the red wind alert this Thursday in Barcelona.

Under the Royal Decree-law 8/2024, which updates the Workers' Statute, staff can claim up to four days of paid leave if authorities advise against traveling due to extreme weather risks. These hours do not need to be made up later.

"I remind you that when an orange or red alert is issued, you have the right to reduce or modify your working day."

Yolanda Díaz · Minister of Labour
Companies may request remote work if feasible and if they provide the necessary equipment. Employees must notify their absence in advance, citing official warnings from Aemet or Civil Protection.
