The situation affects a protected rental home on Camí del Nord street in Llívia, where the tenant constantly deals with falling debris. This not only accumulates in the inner courtyard but also enters the living space, soiling furniture, mattresses, and even toys.
The resident explained that the biomass chimney, which provides heating and hot water to the building, is located directly above her inner courtyard. This configuration causes soot and ash to settle on her property every time the boiler operates.
Despite repeated complaints to the property owner and requests for help from public administrations, the situation has not improved. The tenant has had to hire a cleaning company monthly to try and mitigate the effects of the contamination.
“"I live in a ground-floor interior apartment that is protected rental property, owned by a private company. The building operates with a biomass boiler, and every time the heating or hot water is on, soot and ash fall into my patio, which also seeps into the apartment."
A technical report on habitability and environmental health, commissioned by the resident herself, has confirmed the "
"supervening technical uninhabitability"
" of the dwelling. The study indicates that no cleaning measure can solve the problem, which it attributes to a combined error in design, the chimney's location, and a lack of dynamic dispersion.

The only solution proposed by the report is to relocate the chimney to the central axis of the roof. Furthermore, high levels of formaldehyde, a toxic substance, were detected during tests, increasing concerns for the health of the household's occupants.
