The Catalan railway network currently has 183 sections with speed limitations, totaling 163 km of track. In the Girona region, the figure stands at 30 sections with restrictions. This situation contrasts with the less than a hundred affected sections before the January 20th incident in Gelida, where a retaining wall caused a serious accident.
Following the accident, and under pressure from train drivers, Adif progressively implemented new limitations to ensure safety. The peak was reached in early March with 225 affected sections. Although the number has decreased, it remains far from the pre-incident situation.
The Weekly Speed Limitation Document, covering the entire railway network, details that over sixty sections have reductions to as low as 30 km/h, and another fifteen between 10 and 20 km/h. Around fifty more are limited to 50 km/h, and thirty to 60 km/h.
The Barcelona province accounts for 45% of the speed-limited points (83 sections), followed by Tarragona (57 sections). In Girona, the figure of 30 sections has remained relatively stable, while Lleida has 13, double the number before the accident.
