Fifty employees from the pet food company Gosbi participated on Friday in an environmental volunteering day at the Mas L'Arbreda estate, as part of the Projecte Muntanyes de Rocacorba, to build nesting boxes and shelters for local wildlife.

A group of fifty employees from the pet food company Gosbi participated last Friday in an environmental volunteering day. The activity, organized by the Fundació Sèlvans as part of the Projecte Muntanyes de Rocacorba, took place at the Mas L'Arbreda estate.
During the session, which lasted nearly two hours, participants built nesting boxes for nocturnal birds of prey and shelters for bats. These structures will soon be installed at strategic points in the mountains to aid the recovery of these species and enhance the area's biodiversity.
The event highlighted the crucial role of these species in ecosystem balance. It was explained how bats, capable of consuming up to 30% of their body weight in flying insects nightly, reduce pest populations in crops and forests, lessening the need for chemical treatments. Barn owls and scops owls, predators of rodents, also help regulate populations, though they require cavities for breeding, which are often scarce in degraded forests.
The installation of nesting boxes has proven effective, with increases of up to 25% in barn owl populations and a 50% to 70% rise in bat presence in areas where they are implemented.
Beyond the practical outcome, the Fundació Sèlvans emphasizes the awareness-raising aspect of the day. Directly learning about the vital role of these species changes participants' understanding of the territory. The new structures will help diversify the fauna of the Muntanyes de Rocacorba, providing a habitat for local and migratory species to breed and establish themselves.

"At Gosbi, we understand well-being broadly: caring for animals, people, and our environment. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for this day to take place at Mas L'Arbreda, a natural space we aim to transform into a hub for awareness, sustainability, and local pride. From here, we work to preserve the territory, promote biodiversity, and restore the Mediterranean landscape. Today's event with Fundació Sèlvans, part of our collaboration with the Projecte Muntanyes de Rocacorba, allows us to actively contribute to the conservation of a valuable natural space. It demonstrates our commitment to the territory, biodiversity, and initiatives that generate real positive impact, and it's a way to involve our team in an action aligned with our core values."
