The city of Girona is on the verge of a potential indefinite strike in its cleaning and waste collection services, called by the Girona+Neta workforce starting Monday, May 4, at 00:00 hours. Despite the approaching deadline, negotiations remain open, and a final mediation attempt has been scheduled for Sunday at noon.
The company committee has maintained the strike call after an assembly held on April 30, where the workforce ratified the protest. The main points of disagreement focus on working hours, the obligation to work on holidays, and linking salary increases to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), according to sources close to the negotiation.
“"The responsibility to avoid the strike lies with a real movement from the company."
This conflict, which has already undergone two mediations by the Labor Inspectorate on April 29 and May 1, affects an essential service for the city. The committee has expressed its disappointment at not having been called to any meeting on Saturday, May 2, which reduces the margin to reach an agreement before the strike begins.
Although the Girona City Council has shown willingness to listen and reorganize services within the framework of the tender specifications, the positions of the company and the workforce remain entrenched at the negotiation table. The mediation by the Bar Association, mentioned in recent hours, has not yet taken place.
