A total of 165 passengers on an R11 line train were evacuated this Friday afternoon in Sant Jordi Desvalls, in Gironès, after a tree fell onto the tracks.

The incident, which caused no injuries among passengers or drivers, forced the train to stop. The Bombers (firefighters) began the evacuation around 4:30 PM and completed it in just twenty minutes. Passengers were escorted by Bombers and Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) to a nearby point where buses provided by Renfe picked them up.
This incident has led to the interruption of railway service between Flaçà and Figueres. To mitigate the impact, an alternative road service has been established for this section. The R11 and RG1 lines continue to operate normally between Barcelona and Flaçà, and between Figueres and Portbou.
Additionally, special Avant services have been arranged. One departed from Barcelona Sants at 5:30 PM, with stops in Girona at 6:00 PM and Figueres Vilafant at 6:24 PM. A second Avant train left Figueres Vilafant at 7:00 PM, stopping in Girona at 7:16 PM and Barcelona Sants at 7:52 PM.

There is currently no estimated time for service resumption.

Following the event, Protecció Civil (Civil Protection) has activated the pre-alert for the Ferrocat emergency plan. Technicians from Renfe and Adif have been dispatched to the scene to assess the damage and begin necessary repairs, with no date yet set for the full restoration of the line.
