The operation, involving the Mossos d'Esquadra, Guàrdia Urbana de Lleida, and Policia Nacional, focused on the area around Plaça del Dipòsit. During the intervention, approximately 50 people were identified, leading to one arrest for a public health offense.
In addition to the arrest, several citations were issued. Two individuals were cited for possession of bladed weapons, which were confiscated, and two others for public health infractions. The Guàrdia Urbana also cited one person for street vending and the managers of a bar on Carrer Boters for five infractions, mainly related to hygiene. The Policia Nacional, for its part, issued three citations regarding immigration matters.
“"This operation allows us to identify repeat offenders and, should a crime occur in the area, to locate them and arrest them if they are deemed responsible for any criminal offense."
Sub-inspector Rafa Melero justified the choice of this area of the Historic Center, despite it not being the location with the most robberies, due to the high number of neighbor complaints, reports of incivility, public space occupation, and receiving stolen goods linked to street vending. The operation mobilized about fifty officers from the three police forces.
Authorities plan to continue with these types of operations to combat repeat offending, as, according to Melero, they "have always been a success." The most recent precedent was in May last year, around the Eix Comercial, which led to the arrest of several individuals with records for violent robberies and intimidation.
