The incident occurred when the train, carrying approximately 150 passengers, struck a tree that had fallen onto the railway line. Fortunately, the collision did not result in any injuries among the train's occupants, as confirmed by emergency services.
Immediately after the impact, emergency protocols were activated, and rescue services began evacuating the passengers. Seven units from the Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) were dispatched to the scene to assist with the operations. Travelers were escorted on foot along the GIV 62-33 road to a point where they could board buses bound for Figueres.
To minimize disruption to mobility, Renfe organized an alternative road service between Flaçà and Figueres. Additionally, a special Avant service was set up from Barcelona Sants station, with stops in Girona and Figueres, and a reinforcement train in the opposite direction to ensure service continuity.
The situation led Protecció Civil to activate the Ferrocat plan in alert phase, a protocol initiated during railway incidents to coordinate the actions of various emergency bodies and ensure the safety of those affected.
The swift action of emergency services was crucial in managing the situation without major incidents and ensuring passenger safety.
