This temporary situation extends for the fourth consecutive year at the Mataró center, which had to face the start of the academic year with an increase in ESO first-year lines (from three to four) and the demands of the pandemic. To ensure stable groups, the teaching staff has more than doubled, increasing from 16 to 42 teachers.
The management, led by director Carina Torres, designed four differentiated access points for each ESO cycle, aiming to create internal "mini-institutes" and prevent contact between students. However, on Monday, the first day of class, only two accesses were operational due to the last-minute installation of the new prefabricated modules.
“"When the four accesses are up and running, there will be more security, as any contact between students from different cycles will be avoided."
Regarding spaces, the center decided not to use the multipurpose classroom at the Antoni Comas Library, prioritizing traceability and avoiding student dispersion. Instead, they will use patios in a nearby plot and the Rocafonda football field for outdoor activities.
The concern over the lack of definitive infrastructure adds to the health uncertainty. The Education Councilor for Mataró, Miquel Àngel Vadell, acknowledged that the pandemic has halted progress on the construction of the building, budgeted at 6.5 million euros, and hopes that work can begin in about a year and a half.
