The City Council (Paeria) has announced the creation of two observation points for the total solar eclipse scheduled for next August 12. These areas will be located at the Seu Vella and in the Els Mangraners area, with a combined capacity for 13,500 people. Access will be free but will require prior reservation via the website paeria.cat/eclipsi. Attendees will be provided with certified glasses to ensure safe viewing of the phenomenon.
Mayor Fèlix Larrosa highlighted that Lleida will be the largest city in Catalonia where the total solar eclipse can be observed, starting precisely at 7:34:41 PM. Technicians from the Montsec Astronomical Park will offer information to attendees. Additionally, bus line L7 will be reinforced, and the presence of police forces and emergency teams will be ensured.
The Councilor for Culture, Pilar Bosch, anticipates the arrival of thousands of "astrotourists" attracted by an event that will not occur again for 150 years. Hotel occupancy forecasts already point to between 85% and 100%, a figure significantly higher than usual for August. Parallel activities have been scheduled starting from July 11.
Other municipalities in the province are also preparing. In Segarra, the county council will define an observation space, while in Tàrrega (Urgell), the Associació d’Amics de l’Arbre will organize an event at the Ermita de Sant Eloi. In Mollerussa, certified protective glasses are already on sale.
