This operation, carried out between Periodista Trapa street and Passeig de Ronda, is the first time such a technique has been applied to a high-capacity pipeline in Lleida. The infrastructure, approximately 70 years old, will be reinforced without the need for works that would affect traffic in the area.
The technique involves installing a flexible polyethylene hose inside the existing pipeline, which has a diameter of 500 millimeters. This hose is reinforced with three layers of Kevlar, adding an extra 6 millimeters of reinforcement to the conduit.
The work began last Tuesday with the internal cleaning of the pipeline, a task that will continue until day 5. On days 6 and 7, the hose will be installed, followed by pressure tests on day 8. Between the 12th and 20th, connections and new valves will be installed, and finally, from the 20th to 28th, the pavements damaged by these works will be repaired. The total cost of this intervention amounts to 467,124.32 euros and is part of Aqualia's investment plan.
