The new academic year in Tarragona will be marked by the commencement of an ambitious sustainable mobility project driven by the Ministry of Transport. The initiative, which aims to modify two main city access points and reduce the impact of A-7 traffic, includes the installation of acoustic barriers and the expansion of the Francolí bridge.
As confirmed by the Councillor for Territory of the Tarragona City Council, Nacho García Latorre, the work will prioritize the installation of acoustic barriers on the A-7 and the expansion of the Francolí bridge, before addressing the Llevant area.
The acoustic barriers, spanning approximately 2.2 kilometers of the A-7, address a long-standing demand from residents to mitigate noise pollution in areas like Tarragona 2.
The Francolí bridge expansion will feature a new wing with an exclusive lane for pedestrians and cyclists, measuring 3.75 meters wide, enhancing connectivity between the city center and the Ponent neighborhoods and promoting a more cohesive and safer city for active mobility.
Subsequently, works will move to Llevant, with the construction of a cycle lane between the roundabouts of Savinosa and La Móra. This project, adding 7 kilometers of sustainable mobility routes, will include segregated paths for bicycles, scooters, and pedestrians, with an estimated execution period of about twelve months.
With an investment of 7.8 million euros, this initiative is part of an agreement between the Ministry of Transport and the Tarragona City Council to integrate national road sections into the urban fabric. However, future phases to connect with Altafulla and works on the T-11, the Valencia road, and the Tanatori road remain pending.
