The Diputació de Tarragona (Tarragona Provincial Council) has opened its 2026 call for aid, aimed at supporting municipalities in restoring assets and services affected by weather phenomena and, for the first time, also by forest fires.

This initiative, targeting city councils, decentralized municipal entities, and comarcal councils, seeks to cover expenses arising from damages caused by climatic alterations and natural disasters, such as floods, wind damage, hailstorms, and now also the effects of forest fires. The covered incidents must have occurred between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, with the application deadline set for May 7.
The aid also covers investment expenses and urgent actions to restore essential services like drinking water supply, sewerage, public lighting, road paving, and municipal facilities. Furthermore, it allows for the funding of exceptional and urgent technical, economic, or legal assistance.

The Tarragona Provincial Council aims to intensify aid to municipalities in situations that generate greater impact and more severe damage.

For the granting of these funds, the hazard threshold of the phenomena will be taken into account, according to data from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Catalan Meteorological Service). If an event (rain, hail, snow, wind, cold, or heat) is classified with a High threshold, beneficiaries will be able to access a higher amount of aid, with the aim of intensifying support in situations of greater impact.
The distribution of aid will also follow a demographic criterion, favoring smaller municipalities. For example, a municipality with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants affected by a high-hazard phenomenon could receive up to 180,000 euros, while one with more than 20,000 inhabitants, under the same conditions, would receive a maximum of 120,000 euros. In 2025, the Diputació de Tarragona allocated 4.3 million euros through these aids to municipalities in Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre, and Baix Penedès.
