The La Seu d'Urgell Town Council has launched the first phase of structural repairs at the iconic les Monges building this March to ensure its long-term stability.

The project has a budget of 335,341.25 euros and is expected to last four months. These works are essential for the preservation of the historic site, which serves as the city's primary cultural center.
This initial stage focuses on the ground floor and mezzanine, currently home to the La Cuina exhibition hall. Engineers will reinforce the floor structures and install a new external emergency staircase to meet modern safety standards.
The renovation also includes maintenance of windows and roofs to protect the five-story building from weather damage. The council has opted for a phased approach to manage the costs of preserving this heritage site.
