The philologist Maria Magdalena Gelabert Miró, originally from Manacor, has been honored with the 41st edition of the Valeri Serra i Boldú Popular Culture Award of Bellpuig, endowed with 5,000 euros, for her comprehensive study on hell and demons in Mallorcan folk tales.

The awarded work, titled La construcció d’un món infernal: l’infern i el dimoni a les Rondalles Mallorquines d’Antoni M. Alcover, provides a rigorous analysis of the imagery associated with these figures within Mallorcan fables. The study is based on 479 narratives from Antoni M. Alcover's corpus, examining the configuration of the infernal world, the diversity of demons, their typologies, and their relationship with humans.

"It is an enormous honor, as it is the most important popular culture award in the Catalan Countries, with a very significant symbolism among researchers in the field."

The author, a doctor in Catalan Language and Literature and a specialist in Antoni M. Alcover's work, dedicated five years to this research. According to Gelabert, this world is "fascinating" and the malignant figure "reflects our dark side and how we confront fears by giving them shape, which allows us to approach them and overcome them." She emphasized that, in Alcover's folk tales, "men sell their souls to the devil, while women defeat him".
During the same evening in Bellpuig, the winning book from the previous edition, Curs de literatura oral. Cinc conferències d’Andreu Ferrer Ginard, by Josep Nicolau Perelló, was presented by Eduard Puig. The booklet from the Gent de Casa collection dedicated to Gregori Satorres, presented by Ramon Miró, which champions the memory of local figures, was also unveiled.
The event included the awards ceremony for the children's and youth categories. In the children's category, El Cau by Maria Domínguez Rubiol won first prize. In youth A, Castellserà s’emporta la palma! by Anna Torres Marcén was the winner, and in youth B, Sota les espurnes by Nour Abed Kharoun received the highest recognition. The cultural day concluded with musical performances by the Orfeó Joventut de Bellpuig and the Valencian singer-songwriter Miquel Gil.
