The Teatre Ateneu in Tàrrega hosted the presentation of the Mapadeball project, promoted by the Mercat de les Flors, to bring contemporary dance closer to secondary students in 11 Catalan municipalities.

The capital of Urgell is one of the eleven municipalities selected for this educational initiative, driven by the Mercat de les Flors, which aims to introduce the language of movement and contemporary creation dance to young secondary students. In the first edition in Tàrrega, one hundred young people from the Institut Alfons Costafreda and the Escola Alba de Tàrrega will benefit.
The local artist responsible for delivering the training is the dancer and choreographer Núria Argilés, from Vilanova de Bellpuig and founder of the contemporary dance company La Casa Oscura.

"Mapadeball allows students a first contact with the world of contemporary dance. Furthermore, it works on sensory aspects with their own body and collective relationships with their peers."

Núria Argilés · Local Artist and Choreographer
Over the coming months, Argilés will lead ten sessions for each group to prepare the choreography UMHLABA, designed by choreographers Sílvia Sant Funk and Mònica Muntaner. The final performance will take place at the Teatre Ateneu on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, coinciding with International Dance Day.

"The inclusive factor of the proposal is key so that young people can discover another language to relate to each other."

Laura Tejero · Tàrrega Culture Councillor
The project, which originated in 2010 from the Barcelona Tot Dansa experience, is now part of the II Dance Promotion Plan of the Department of Culture. It is expected that 46 high schools, 86 teachers, 2,800 students, and 19 local artists will participate across Catalonia.
