This projected increase for Catalan agricultural income surpasses the 12.9% estimate that the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture had calculated for the entire Spanish State. The difference is partly due to the significant weight of livestock farming in the Catalan primary sector, especially in activities such as beef cattle and pork, which showed favorable developments last year.
However, the pork sector experienced a significant price drop starting on November 28, when African swine fever was detected in wild boars in Cerdanyola del Vallès. This situation caused prices to fall to as low as one euro per live animal kilogram.
The agricultural income at the state level reached 41.262 million euros, a figure that the Ministry of Agriculture will detail with specific data for Catalonia in its official presentation.
