The Cerdanyola del Vallès Court of Instruction has reopened the investigation into the death of a 26-year-old woman who drowned at the UAB university pool on January 28.

The judge ruled that the case, which was initially archived, requires further investigation due to factual gaps. The victim's family alleges that the lifeguard on duty abandoned his post for approximately 15 minutes, despite noticing the woman was struggling in the water.
The investigation will now focus on whether the Physical Activity Service (SAF) protocols were followed. New evidence, including security camera footage and internal documents, will be reviewed to determine if the lack of supervision was an individual error or a systemic failure.
Witnesses and the suspect are scheduled to testify in late April and early May. The court aims to clarify if the time the victim spent underwater—estimated between 10 and 15 minutes—was the direct cause of her death two days later in the hospital.
