Within the framework of the 23rd edition of the Terrassa Modernist Fair, a local jewelry store will connect the past with the present by exhibiting an original modernist machine from the early 19th century. This singular piece will be displayed in the shop window, located on Font Vella street, 57, during the fair weekend.
The establishment, which this year commemorates its 40th anniversary, has preserved this antique iron lathe with which they continue to craft modernist-style pieces entirely by hand. The machine allows for engraving various reliefs and borders onto metal, inspired by floral and natural motifs, which are highly characteristic of the modernist era.
“"It's an authentic vintage piece. Currently, many companies create vintage lines, but they are 3D, not authentic."
This machine is considered practically unique in the Catalan territory. According to the managers, they are unaware of similar pieces existing in the world of jewelry. The resulting creations have generated interest beyond Terrassa, attracting customers from all over Catalonia and receiving orders from the rest of Spain through their online platform.
The machine remains operational today with complete precision. The managers highlight the durability of this type of rudimentary machinery. With it, they craft rigid bracelets, rings, keychains, and other accessories, in both gold and silver, often combined with macramé or chains. The result, they assure, is unmatched by current technology, as a 3D machine cannot reproduce the same quality.
Beyond its technical value, the owning family maintains a special emotional bond with this piece, considering it invaluable and unwilling to sell it. The jewelry store's history dates back to 1986, when the founders opened their first shop after years of training in high jewelry workshops in Barcelona. Their children have continued the legacy, maintaining the artisanal essence and commitment to handmade jewelry and personalized customer experiences.
During the Modernist Fair, this historic machine will be visible to all passersby on Font Vella street, offering a living display of Terrassa's artisan tradition and commercial heritage.
