Public primary schools in Terrassa have unanimously decided not to schedule excursions or off-site stays starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, as a pressure tactic to demand improvements from the Department of Education.

Around thirty educational centers in the Vallès city have announced this decision, resulting from a consensus among teaching staff. The objective is to force negotiations for improvements in resources and working conditions for staff, in an action considered historic due to its scale.

"We take this decision responsibly because Terrassa has significant weight and tends to influence other cities."

The measure has the support of all school administrations and faculty, including teaching staff and administrative and service personnel (PAS). The decision is based on the excessive unpaid responsibility and chronic lack of staff, especially given the growing diversity of students who require more individualized attention.

"We really enjoy going on camps, but nobody likes to work for free."

School administrations emphasize that the burden of responsibility they assume during outings and camps is unsustainable. This task, which involves a 24-hour dedication, is carried out voluntarily and without any additional compensation, creating considerable pressure in the daily lives of education professionals.
Despite the strong announcement, school administrations have sought to convey a message of calm regarding the current academic year, as already scheduled outings will proceed normally until June. The measure would apply from the next academic year, keeping the door open for negotiation with the Department of Education.

"All primary schools in the city have joined en masse. It is not a definitive measure; it depends on the Department."

This initiative in Terrassa is part of a wave of mobilizations spreading across Catalonia, with over 1,011 centers adhering to the manifesto "Let's Stop Outings and Camps. For a Dignified and Quality Public Education". Protests will continue with a general strike day and demonstrations in Barcelona, as well as regional stoppages planned for May and June.
