The National Archive of Catalonia currently holds the Marroyo Fund, a collection featuring a 1971 historical photograph depicting commercial life at the old Dr. Guardiet square in Rubí.

The image, captured by Ignasi Marroyo, shows the former market building decorated with the city's coat of arms. Outside, local farmers sold fresh produce under large umbrellas. Among them was the mother of the well-known actor Enric Majó, according to local historian Lluïsa Pernas.
Designed by architect Francisco Portillo, the facility opened in 1957 during the term of Mayor Josep Fortino. It featured over 50 stalls and modern cold storage rooms. However, as Rubí expanded rapidly during the 1960s, the building eventually became too small for the city's needs.
In 1974, the City Council led by Manuel Murillo approved the construction of the current market. The old site, affectionately known as the mercat vell, closed in 1980 and was eventually demolished in 1986, marking the end of an era for the local community.
