A wild boar has been detected with African Swine Fever in Terrassa, confirming 11 new cases in the high-risk zone of Vallès Occidental, prompting new containment measures by the Government of Catalonia.

The Department of Agriculture announced this Friday the detection of a wild boar positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) in Terrassa. This case is part of a total of eleven new positive detections located within the high-risk zone, affecting municipalities such as Sabadell, Rubí, Sant Quirze, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and Cerdanyola, all within the Vallès Occidental region.
According to the Spanish Ministry, the infected animals were found dead in the natural environment, within areas delimited by perimeter fences. Of the 343 samples analyzed this week, 3.21% tested positive. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,325 wild boars have been captured in the affected area, with nearly 300 carried out this week by various bodies such as the Rural Agents, the Mossos d'Esquadra, hunting societies, and wildlife control teams from Tragsa.
To curb the spread of ASF, the Government of Catalonia has announced new measures, including the installation of additional containment barriers on the B-40, between Terrassa and Abrera. These barriers are in addition to existing ones on bridges and wildlife crossings, and the closure of ecological corridors, with the aim of delimiting the two main areas of action.
In parallel, wild boar captures are being intensified in the high-risk zone through the installation of 26 traps and 40 collective traps (pig brigs). Furthermore, 45 kilometers of fences have been erected to prevent the movement of wild boars into and out of restricted areas. The Department of Agriculture emphasizes the importance of "continuity, adaptation, and joint effort" to contain the outbreak, maintaining restrictions in the natural environment in high-risk municipalities, such as Terrassa.
Citizens are urged to respect signage, not feed wild boars, dispose of waste in closed containers, and call 112 if they detect dead or symptomatic wild boars.
