Farmers from Girona, mobilized against the Mercosur agreement, intensified protests this morning in Pontós (Alt Empordà), completely blocking the N-II and maintaining the AP-7 blockade for over 48 hours, awaiting a call from Minister Òscar Ordeig.

The blockade of the AP-7, one of the main connection routes with France, began early Wednesday morning near Pontós. Initially, the N-II remained open for cars, but this morning, around 9 am, the protesters decided to block it entirely, including light vehicles, and not just trucks.

"We encourage everyone in the territory to join the blockade"

This escalation of protests, according to the Revolta Pagesa collective, is a response to the refusal of the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, to go to Madrid to defend the "no" to the Mercosur agreement, as they had requested. Farmers demand that the Minister call them today to demonstrate that he "wants to be" their representative.
The N-II blockade was carried out using car and tractor tires, material that, according to Ginabreda, is easy to remove if an agreement is reached. The Mossos d'Esquadra are implementing detours to prevent major congestion on both sides of the road. Farmers maintain hope that the agreement will not be validated by the European Parliament, despite Spain having already endorsed it.

"We asked for more controls on products coming from abroad. We don't want a 'we will look into it,' we want a no"
