The Calaf City Council initially approved the file to request the creation of the Alta Segarra region, a process that requires ratification by the seven involved municipalities.

The municipal plenary session of Calaf has given the initial green light to the file requesting the constitution of the new Alta Segarra region before the Parliament of Catalonia. This administrative entity would include the seven municipalities that already form the Mancomunitat de l'Alta Segarra: Calaf, Calonge de Segarra, Castellfollit de Riubregós, Els Prats de Rei, Pujalt, Sant Martí de Sesgueioles, and Sant Pere Sallavinera.

"Despite the changes in government and the need to restart procedures, the process currently has the predisposition of the Parliament and the Department of Local Government, and that is why we are now taking the necessary steps to make it a reality."

The initiative responds to a historical demand, as the association operates de facto as a region but lacks the services and funding associated with that status. To unblock the process, the seven municipalities must ratify the agreement initially approved in 2023 to ensure the continuity of the shared will. Calaf, which will be the capital, was the first to hold the plenary session after the meeting with the Director General of Local Administration, Francesc Belver.
In addition to the regional creation, the Calaf plenary session also approved the Local Youth Plan 2026–2029 and a credit modification worth 724,884.10 €. This sum, provided by the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion, will be allocated to the elderly residence project, allowing the City Council to reduce the cost it must assume.
