A section of the teaching staff at the Institut Salvador Vilaseca in Reus will lock themselves in the center on February 10, the eve of the education strike in Catalonia, to denounce the degradation of public education.

An assembly of teachers at the Institut Salvador Vilaseca in Reus decided to stage a lock-in at the center on the afternoon of February 10, just before the education strike called across Catalonia. This action aims to show rejection of what they consider a “continued degradation” of public education, joining union demands.

The goal is to strengthen mobilization, create meeting spaces among professionals from different centers, and involve students in the demands.

The teachers support the four consensus points articulating the strike: salary increase (claiming to have lost a quarter of purchasing power in fifteen years), reduction of classroom ratios, lack of resources to implement policies like inclusion, and reduction of bureaucratic load, which takes away hours that could be dedicated to students.
Beyond these points, the teaching staff criticizes that educational curricula are often developed without the participation of teachers working in the classroom. They also denounce decisions such as the merger of Chemistry and Physics subjects or the reduction of teaching hours affecting subjects like Catalan, Spanish, Economics, and Philosophy.
During the afternoon of February 10, various activities have been organized open to students and Generalitat staff called to strike. This includes the screening of the film La estrategia del caracol and an open assembly at 7 p.m. to coordinate and create networks between centers, concluding with a fellowship dinner.
