Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital (Can Ruti) in Badalona reached the historic figure of 2,000 kidney transplants in December, confirming its status as a key reference center for the Barcelonès Nord and Maresme areas.

This historic achievement was reached in December with the transplant of Ramona, a patient who received her second kidney. The Hospital Germans Trias has been a reference center for transplants through its Renal and Pancreatic Transplant Unit since 1985.
The center is part of the organ donation and transplant programs of the Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT) and actively participates in cross-transplant programs with other centers in Spain. Currently, the hospital performs kidney transplants from both deceased and living donors, including robotic surgery. The services involved are Nephrology, Urology, General and Digestive Surgery, Anesthesia, and Intensive Care.

Kidney transplantation is an excellent therapeutic alternative for many patients with chronic kidney disease, and the center has significantly increased the number of procedures in recent years.

This year, 2025, the hospital recorded a record number of 106 kidney transplants. Furthermore, the center commemorates the 40th anniversary of its first renal transplant, which took place in October, and the 34th anniversary of its first pancreatic transplant, performed in 1991.
