The Department of Education has confirmed that Girona will be the territorial service with the largest initial offering of public school groups for the 2026-2027 academic year.

For the upcoming term, Girona is set to offer 260 public groups for 3-year-olds (I3), surpassing other regions like Vallès Occidental. When combined with subsidized private schools, the total reaches 315 groups for infants and 337 groups for the first year of secondary education (ESO).

"We have taken advantage of the situation with the arrival of primary students and available facilities to lower some ratios."

A significant shift is expected in the subsidized sector, where 283 units across Catalonia will lose their public funding. This decision impacts nine schools that continue to separate students by gender, failing to meet co-education requirements. Officials stated that the move ensures legal compliance and system stability.
The application period for infant and primary education will run from March 4 to 18, while ESO applications will be accepted from March 6 to 18. Final school placements will be announced on June 10.
