Joan Capdevila, a native of Castellterçol, collaborated with the newspaper EL 9 NOU since its inception, always maintaining a close link with the social, cultural, and political life of the Moianès region. His death on Wednesday has been deeply felt in the town. The burial ceremony will take place this Thursday at 1 p.m.
Professionally, Capdevila was a teacher, studying at the Gleva seminary and later graduating in Philosophy and Letters and Teaching. He taught first at the private school Xedmar and later at the public school following the implementation of the EGB system, until his retirement in 2004.
His journalistic vocation coexisted with teaching. In an interview for the 40th anniversary of EL 9 NOU, he recalled writing about local topics such as forest logging, historical house lintels, or the Sant Quirze Safaja sanatorium, always focusing on human heritage.
“"He defined the newspaper as a tool that had allowed stories and people to be known who, without its existence, might not have had public projection."
His deep knowledge of Castellterçol led to his appointment as the town's chronicler, a role from which he disseminated local history. The City Council has issued a statement of condolence. In addition to his work for EL 9 NOU and as a correspondent for Regió 7, he authored several books on local history and continued collaborating with the special edition EL 9 Moianès.
