The lack of a regular municipal tow truck service in Sant Cugat del Vallès, a situation dating back to 2016 without a stable contract, has worsened. After operating only for emergencies during 2022 and 2023, and having no operational service in early 2024, the attempt at provisional normalization has failed.
“"Every time the city needs a tow truck, we have to place an extraordinary order."
The tender, launched to guarantee minimal continuity while a more ambitious contract was prepared, demanded high structural requirements for a short-term contract (four months, extendable). Conditions included guaranteeing 24-hour service, three drivers, one fixed tow truck, and two backup units.
These conditions, coupled with the temporal uncertainty, resulted in no companies submitting bids in the first call. In a second attempt, the only received offer did not meet the legal requirements, forcing the City Council to declare the tender void last May.
Mayor Josep Maria Vallès admitted the situation on the Línia Directa program on TV Sant Cugat and announced that the municipal government is reformulating the tender specifications and criteria. The goal is to achieve a stable outsourced service with one or two fixed tow trucks in the city, hoping to resolve the issue definitively by 2026.
