Black Friday dilutes the impact of winter sales in Manresa

Merchants in the Bages capital acknowledge that the rise of online sales and year-round promotions have diminished the spectacular nature of traditional discounts.

Merchants in Manresa, the capital of Bages, have started the winter sales campaign with optimism, but admit that the impact of this discount period is increasingly diluted by the effect of Black Friday and e-commerce.

David Augé, owner of the La Creadora store, and Miquel Velasco, from the Joan Soler shirt store, agree that sales no longer generate the same anticipation as before, recalling the historical queues that used to form. Velasco points out that the Black Friday phenomenon in Manresa is amplified by coinciding with the Fira de Sant Andreu, diverting sales from the subsequent season.
The initial sales day was characterized more by exchanges of Christmas and Three Kings' Day gifts than by massive sales, according to employees at the Casas shoe store and SG4 manager, Mireia Combellas. The latter highlighted that outerwear has sold well throughout the winter season.

"Sales campaigns must be exceptional moments. If we held a Sant Jordi every fifteen days, it would not have the impact it has today."

Antoni Daura · President of UBIC Manresa
Antoni Daura, president of UBIC Manresa, noted that it will be necessary to wait a couple of weeks for a definitive assessment, but insists that for traditional commerce these campaigns remain “interesting from a business management point of view” for liquidating stock. To boost sales, UBIC will organize the “Botigues al carrer” (Shops on the street) campaign this weekend.
