Entrepreneurs Sergi Suaña and Jordi Castán are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Casa Amàlia 1950 restaurant in Barcelona with a commemorative menu that reinforces its connection to the Mercat de la Concepció.

Entrepreneurs Sergi Suaña and Jordi Castán took the risk of reviving the charismatic Casa Amàlia 1950 in Barcelona's Dreta de l'Eixample about five years ago, after it had closed due to retirement in 2019. Their venture, which matured during pandemic restrictions, has thrived in a sector where the average age of establishments is only about 11.6 years. The restaurant currently boasts a high rating on Google and has been recommended in the Guia Repsol for two years.
The business maintains its philosophy of “cuisine with market soul,” featuring an umbilical cord connection to the adjacent Mercat de la Concepció. This link is demonstrated through an innovative digital menu that not only displays their culinary offerings but also specifies the origin of most ingredients, even detailing the exact stall in the market where they can be found.

"Their stratospheric Foie gras from Vilobí d'Onyar with 'mongetes del ganxet' has caused such a sensation that it is destined to take root in our menu."

Jordi Castán · Co-owner of Casa Amàlia 1950
To celebrate the 75th anniversary, they have launched an eight-course commemorative menu (priced at 80 euros) that includes key alliances. The benchmark chef of traditional Catalan cuisine, Carles Gaig, has sponsored a star dish: Foie gras from Vilobí d'Onyar with 'mongetes del ganxet'. Furthermore, they have renewed their wine selection with sommelier Rubén Pol (from Disfrutar) and have the support of Gramona, which is also celebrating 75 years since its first vintage.
The restaurant, led in the kitchen by chef Danko Perkovic, stands out for opening seven days a week with continuous service from 13.00 to 22.00 hours. Its clientele is varied: locals and business people at lunchtime, and tourists (up to 70% of capacity) on weekday evenings. The partners, who have already opened another location in Maremàgnum, are preparing two new projects in Barcelona, one of which will recover another historic venue in the city.
