The Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya has selected Tàrrega and the Urgell region as one of five zones to experimentally implement the new educational governance model starting in the 2025-26 academic year.

This plan, which seeks greater decentralization, aims primarily to improve educational quality, optimize resources, and guarantee equity and inclusion for all students. It also seeks to strengthen the role of municipalities and local entities in managing educational services.
The experimental implementation will begin in the 2025-26 academic year in five zones: Tàrrega (covering Urgell), Aran, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, and Vic and its surrounding area.

"It will be an opportunity for Tàrrega and the Urgell region to face educational challenges with a new model that will adapt to the particularities of each territory. It will be a useful new tool to respond to the demands of the educational community and improve its quality."

Each educational governance zone will have a zone director, who will coordinate actions with representatives of the territorial services of the Department of Education and local agents. The project will be periodically monitored before deciding whether to deploy it in other territories, depending on future budgetary availability.
