Extensive livestock farmers from Conca de Barberà and Alt Camp officially established their own association on Wednesday to defend sector interests and promote silvopasture.

The association was created due to the need for organization among extensive livestock farmers in the two regions, as the existing Association of Shepherds of the Prades and Montsant Mountains does not cover the entire territory. The main goals are defending shepherds' interests and promoting the social benefits of extensive livestock farming.
These benefits include sustainability, the production and consumption of quality, zero-kilometer products, and the crucial role of livestock farming as a tool for preventing large forest fires. The association will also focus on promoting silvopasture and maintaining the traditional mosaic landscape of Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà.
The initial driving core consists of 9 shepherds. The board is led by Laura Gadea, a shepherd in Aiguamúrcia, as President, and Pere Casellas, a shepherd from Blancafort, as Vice President. The board is completed by Clara Besora (Querol) as secretary and Mireia Masalias (Solivella) as treasurer.
La Pleta, the Training Center for Extensive Livestock Farming and Landscapes belonging to Concactiva, offers technical support to the new association. This support is vital to ensure that the organization does not impose an additional management burden on the shepherds, who are already overwhelmed with paperwork. The association's first activities are scheduled to begin in 2026.
