The snowfall, which had been anticipated by weather forecasts, was widespread across all municipalities in Conca de Barberà, with the snow line situated between 300 and 500 meters. Temperatures have been extremely low; in Santa Coloma de Queralt, thermometers registered a minimum of -3.5ºC. Also notable are the -2.1ºC recorded in Blancafort and the -2ºC in L'Espluga de Francolí.
Due to the situation, the special emergency plan for snowfalls in Catalonia, known as NEUCAT, has been activated due to the forecast of snow and freezing rain. Various emergency bodies, including the Mossos d’Esquadra, Protecció Civil, and Local Police, are carrying out surveillance tasks across the territory. The Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters) have reinforced personnel to cope with the anticipated increase in related services.
Road network disruptions have been significant. The AP-2 motorway had to be closed between Vimbodí and Tarrés, and traffic was subsequently restricted for third-category vehicles between Montblanc and Les Borges Blanques (from PQ 193 to 161). Furthermore, a section of the C-14 between Solivella and Ciutadilla was closed, where accumulated snow forced several vehicles, including trucks in Belltall, to stop. Snowplows are working intensely to restore mobility.
The forecast from Meteocat indicates that the snowfall will continue throughout the morning of Monday, January 5. Although precipitation is expected to concentrate in the afternoon in the interior of the northeastern regions and the central coastal and pre-coastal sectors, the situation raises concerns regarding the Three Kings' Parades scheduled for the evening.
