This 5.47% share, provided by the Institut Català d'Empreses Culturals (ICEC) based on ComScore data, has only been surpassed in the last three decades by the historical record of 2024, which reached 7.84%. Despite the strong percentage, the total number of tickets sold for projections in Catalan original version, dubbed, or subtitled, did not reach 700,000, contrasting with the one million tickets sold in 2024.
The Catalan language has experienced growth in recent years that is beginning to consolidate in terms of spectator share in cinema relative to the total number of tickets sold.
The growth is consolidating, as the average for the first two decades of the century was only 3%. Recent years have marked important milestones: in 2022, the film Alcarràs, by Carla Simón, contributed to a 5.2% share. In 2024, it soared to 7.8% thanks to hits like Casa en Flames and El 47.
Provisional data for 2025 indicates that, out of the 646,328 tickets sold, almost half correspond to films in the original version (311,178). Dubbing registered the lowest figure in the series (151,979 spectators), while projections of films subtitled in Catalan reached higher levels than ever (183,171).
The biggest success of the year was the film Wolfgang, an adaptation of the novel by Laia Aguilar directed by filmmaker Javier Ruiz Caldera. The film closed the year approaching 600,000 spectators across Spain, grossing 3.9 million euros. This figure places it as the second most successful film shot in Catalan in Spain, only behind El 47.
