This new competition, with three venues (Baqueira Beret, Boí-Taüll, and Cerler), is created to promote an emerging discipline that aspires to become an Olympic sport in the 2030 Winter Games. Freeride has experienced significant growth in audience and practitioners, driven by figures such as Aymar Navarro.
The current state of Spanish freeride is excellent, featuring great national ambassadors like Núria Castán (AEP-FCEH) and Abel Moga (EMOTION-FCEH), both members of the RFEDI National Team, who achieve strong results in the FIS Freeride World Tour Pro circuit.
This new format seeks to recognize, empower, and promote future talents who may represent our country in the Pro circuit or, soon, in the Winter Olympic Games.
For five years, the Aran ski resort of Baqueira Beret has hosted the prestigious Freeride World Tour Baqueira Pro by Movistar, an event that attracts thousands of fans to the Valle de Aran to enjoy the descent of the legendary Bacivèr, a highly technical terrain.
The first stop of this Spanish Cup will take place this weekend, from January 17 to 18, coinciding with the Pro circuit. Competitors will participate in the under-18 (U18), under-16 (U16), and under-14 (U14) categories, in both skiing and snowboarding modalities, for men and women.
