Unemployment slightly rises in December in Ponent and Alt Pirineu, but falls 4.13% year-on-year

The Lleida demarcation closes the month with 15,789 unemployed people, despite an increase of 63 individuals compared to November data.

Data from the Ministry of Labour shows that unemployment rose by 0.4% in December in the regions of Ponent, Alt Pirineu, and Aran, setting the total number of unemployed at 15,789.

This monthly increase of 63 people compared to November contrasts with the positive long-term trend, as the number of unemployed is 680 people lower than that recorded in the same month last year, representing a year-on-year decrease of 4.13%.
Regarding Social Security affiliation, the Lleida demarcation ended the month with 211,966 employed individuals, an increase of 1,262 affiliates (0.60%) compared to November. Compared to the previous year, employment has grown by 5,473 contributors.
Of the 15,789 registered unemployed, the majority are women (9,251) versus men (6,538). The services sector concentrates most of the unemployment (10,437), followed by industry (1,450), agriculture (1,230), and construction (1,065). Construction was the sector that saw the largest increase in unemployment in December, with 25 more unemployed people.
At the Catalonia level, December 2025 closed with 323,236 unemployed, 0.58% more than in November, but marking the lowest registered unemployment figure for a December month since 2007.
