The municipal groups Junts per Reus and CUP Reus denounced the predominant use of Spanish in the inaugural show of the Gaudí Year, titled Trencadís: de la Natura a la Llum, held last Saturday, January 3, at the Municipal Olympic Pavilion.
The Reus council pointed out that the event was designed in a bilingual format, although mostly in Catalan, with the intention of premiering it in the city and later studying the possibility of touring other municipalities in Spain.
This was explained at the beginning of the event, which was also conceived to be broadcast to the public throughout the State and abroad through the Federation's channels.
The city council recalls that the artistic direction, technical organization, and script preparation were the responsibility of the Royal Spanish Skating Federation (RFEP). The municipal contribution was limited to the provision and adaptation of the Municipal Olympic Pavilion facilities and event promotion.
The Spanish skating federation sought to contribute to the national and international diffusion of the centenary of the death of the architect from Reus, Antoni Gaudí, with this show, which features junior and senior Spanish national team skaters, European and World champions.
Finally, the municipal government wanted to reiterate its "commitment" to the Catalan language, citing the entity's adherence to the National Pact for the Language last October.
