A Banyoles resident achieved the Exoneration of Unsatisfied Liability (EPI) in January 2026, cancelling €81,160 of accumulated debt after suffering a drastic drop in income during the pandemic.

The man's financial situation became severely complicated after purchasing a vehicle, when the Covid-19 health crisis caused a significant reduction in his monthly income. Despite initially having a stable job, the accumulation of interest and the inability to renegotiate loans led him to unsustainable over-indebtedness.
Faced with desperation, the Banyoles resident resorted to the legal mechanism of the Second Chance Law, designed to allow individuals and freelancers who meet certain requirements to cancel their debts and start over.
The application of this law allowed him to obtain the Exoneration of Unsatisfied Liability (EPI), a crucial step to regaining financial freedom. This legal tool not only relieves the burden of debt but also allows the beneficiary to be removed from default lists and reapply for credit or register assets in their name.
According to data provided by the firm Repara tu deuda, which managed the case, since its founding in 2015, they have managed to exonerate over 400 million euros in debt for people across Spain. The case of the Banyoles resident joins the growing list of individuals using this legal route to reorganize their economic lives.
