The initiative, previously agreed upon by the Council of Mayors of Alt Camp meeting in Santes Creus, highlights the severe situation of the line, which has been poorly served by Renfe and Adif for years. Currently, the service between Valls and Barcelona has been reduced to only four daily trains, with schedules deemed insufficient and incompatible with residents' commuting needs for work and study.
During the adaptation works for the international gauge tunnel at Roda de Berà, the service to Valls was temporarily increased from four to seven daily trains, offering significantly better connectivity. However, once the works concluded, the service was drastically cut back to the previous insufficient frequency.
Among the adopted agreements, the proposal to convert the Vinaixa station into a Terminal Station for a new Barcelona-Vinaixa route stands out. This configuration would allow for better adjustment of frequencies, enabling arrival in Barcelona by 7:30 AM and departure from the Catalan capital towards Vinaixa at 9:00 PM.
The motion also calls for competent administrations to coordinate efforts to implement effective improvements in schedules and train numbers by early 2026. Furthermore, it demands that track maintenance be carried out during nighttime hours, instead of the current daytime schedule, and that Renfe and Adif urgently implement safety, accessibility, and information measures at the line's stations.
